Activities

Brother Emerson Acosta was baptized in 2008 in the southern city of Porto Alegre. Previously a member of a church founded in the US by Alexander Campbell, he became intrigued when he noticed that his church’s literature treated Christadelphians with respect while disparaging most other faiths. On investigating us online he became convinced he had found the Truth and made contact with the CBMA. Being a natural preacher well-grounded in the Truth, Emerson carries on vigorous outreach in his area with CBMA support by means of newspaper advertising for the postal course, which he administers in his area, and by distributing flyers and pamphlets.

Brother Emerson also translates Bible-study material from English and Spanish into Portuguese. CBMA workers visit Emerson and his wife and young family periodically and also support and visit Internet contacts in other areas of the country.

A young Kiwi brother, Rhys Smith, who had studied Portuguese in his home country, spent part of this year travelling in Brazil, settling in Porto Alegre for the first few months to advance his study of the language while providing fellowship for Emerson. A lady on the northeast coast who found Christadelphians over the Internet is receiving baptismal instruction from the US via Skype. Another long-time contact in the same area appears to be nearing baptism. A young Brazilian woman who attended a Christadelphian ecclesia in England for a couple of years recently returned to her home in central Brazil and continues to study with the CBMA by snail-mail and email.
