Activities
Bro. Emerson Acosta of the southern city of Porto Alegre was baptized in 2008. Previously a member of a church founded in the US by Alexander Campbell, a contemporary of Bro. John Thomas, he became intrigued when he noticed that his church's literature treated Christadelphians with great respect while disparaging most other faiths. On investigating us online he became convinced he had found the Truth and made contact with the CBMA.
Being an enthusiastic natural preacher well-grounded in the Truth, Emerson carries on outreach in his area with the support of the CBMA by means of flyers, pamphlets and newspaper advertising. He sends the Portuguese-language postal course to many areas of Brazil and also translates pamphlets from English and Spanish into Portuguese.
CBMA workers visit Emerson and his wife and young family periodically and also correspond with and visit Internet contacts in other areas of the country, several of whom are quite promising. A young Kiwi brother studying Portugese in New Zealand is slated to spend several months in Brazil in 2010 as a short-term CBMA worker, first working for a time with Bro. Emerson in Porto Alegre, then looking up promising postal-course students in other parts of the country. Bro. Peter Southgate's book Thine Is The Kingdom has recently been translated into Brazilian Portuguese by Bro. Sandro Mestre of Portugal and should prove to be a great help to outreach in Brazil.
