Activities
The Los Angeles Hispanic Ecclesia opened its doors in the Koreatown area of the city in 1998 and baptized its first new members in April of the year 2000. Since then we have been blessed with a further 26 baptisms, 2 of those in 2009. Unfortunately, three of those immersed have fallen asleep in Christ, one has ceased attending and one has moved to Guadalajara, Mexico. Two friends are presently studying for baptism.
In addition to the junior Sunday-school class that was added in 2008 we now have added a third for the kindergarten crowd. We hold two weekly ecclesial Bible classes, on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons, and a young-people's class on Monday evenings. The Sunday lecture attracts a reasonable number of visitors.
Our primary means of outreach continues to be the Bible correspondence course, advertised through a Spanish-language, Pennysaver-type magazine. Over the years we have mailed out thousands of courses and our database of current contacts averages about 900 names. As of early November, 2009 we have welcomed 57 brand-new visitors (of all ages) to our meetings in the course of the year, more than the 46 we had all last year. Since the ecclesia began 11 years ago, 725 different people have attended at least one of our classes or lectures.
